Rhodia in Italy
Rhodia began commercial operations in Italy in the 1950s, expanding its presence rapidly through strategic acquisitions.
The Ospiate site was built in 1963, as Geronazzo Prodotti per la Seta, a silk chemicals company, moved out of Milan. After the facility was built, industrial activities started to expand, beginning with the construction, in 1979, of the first extholylation plant using innovative technology.
A second ethoxylation plant was later built and, currently, the plant produces surfactants and specialty chemicals for the agrichemical, polymerization, industrial and cosmetics sectors.
The Livorno site has existed ever since 1935 becoming the exclusive property of Rhodia, through progressive acquisitions, in 1991. Today, the plant produces amorphous silica mostly for the tire market.
